Wychwood Baptist Church

COVID-19

A simplified website ...

Given the current pandemic, ministry is different.  Activities and events where we can physically be together are either on hold or limited.  Some have been replaced by online (mainly Zoom) meetings instead.

We have simplified our website, removing many of the previous menu links.  Rather than  spend time searching different tabs, this page summarises what is on offer, with links to various online meetings.  It also includes other resources which you may find helpful.  It covers Pastoral & Practical Care, Sunday Services, Bible Studies & DevotionsRegular Activities & Events, and Other Resources.

PASTORAL & PRACTICAL CARE

WBC continues to offer Pastoral & Practical Care.  Our Pastor is available via phone, email, video call, or even a 'socially distant' outdoors meet.  As a church we are looking out for one another by small groups keeping in regular contact - we'd be happy to add you to a group if that would help.  These are difficult days, don't be afraid to ask for help!

We are also offering practical support, such as food or pharmacy collections & deliveries.  We also work with Chipping Norton Foodbank, so let us know if you find yourself in need. Or, should you wish to donate you can drop off in our church porch, or arrange for us to come and collect.

Contact us for more details.

SUNDAY SERVICES

We would love you to join us on a Sunday, via Zoom.

We meet from 10.15 for a catch up with one another, and then formally start our service (which lasts about an hour) at 10.30.  The service itself is quite interactive.  Great if that's for you, but don't be put off if it's not.  You can participate if you want to - but not everyone does, so just listen in if that's what you'd prefer.  Our time includes songs, prayer and a bible focus which we explore together.

PLEASE NOTE:  We are continuing to do this, despite the easing of restrictions from 4th July. We will review this again in September.

Just looking?

Maybe you're just looking, and the idea of being seen on a Zoom call is the last thing you'd want.  We know many people are taking the opportunity of churches being online to take a look in the comfort of their own homes.  You can still do that with Zoom!  Just log in with your mic muted and your video turned off.

Keen to connect, but at a different time?

Our services are not currently recorded, so here are some suggestions of churches we have a connection with:

 Burford Church

Burford are part of our Gospel Partnership.  Each Sunday they livestream their 'JAM' Children's ministry at 9.30am, followed by their Sunday service at 10am.  These are then made available shortly afterwards.

To access their services, Click Here

 Magdalen Road

Another church we have links with is Magdalen Road in Oxford, who have supported us with visiting speakers when needed.  Their livestream takes place at 10.30 on Sundays, and is made available shortly afterwards.

BIBLE STUDIES & DEVOTIONS

Midweek Reflection

We produce a midweek devotion, which is a summary of a passage, followed by some suggested 'reflections.'  This is available as a printed sheet, and can also be viewed on Youtube.

In addition to the above, there are a number of helpful online devotional resources.  Here are two we would recommend:

Matt Searles

Matt has produced a wonderful series of daily devotions on the Psalms and is now in Matthew's gospel.  You can watch this live at 8am weekdays on Facebook, or at your convenience on Youtube.

CARE

Another helpful resource is from Care.org, who provide live devotionals on Facebook, Tuesdays & Fridays at 9am.

REGULAR ACTIVITIES & EVENTS

Whilst we are limited in being able to physically meet each Friday, we do still have opportunities to meet, virtually or otherwise!

Virtual Cafe (Fridays, 10.30-11.30am)

Each Friday, in place of our regular cafe, why not grab a cuppa and a slice of cake, and join on Zoom with others from the community for a good old chin wag!

Contact us for more details.

N-Gage Youth Club  (Fridays, 7-8pm)

Those in school years 7-11 continue to meet on Fridays, typically but not always over Zoom.  We recently split into small groups (4 youth, 2 adults) for a socially distant walk, and will be looking into other opportunities to meet in small groups on other occassions.

OTHER RESOURCES

Perhaps this time has got you personally, or has caused others you know to spend more time thinking about God, who he is, and maybe even where he is in the midst of a pandemic like COVID.  Here is one resources which may help.

Where is God in a Coronavirus World?

John Lennox is a mathematician, philosopher of science and Christian apologist. He is Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford and an Emeritus Fellow in Mathematics and Philosophy of Science at Green Templeton College, Oxford University.

In this book, Professor Lennox addresses how belief in a loving and sovereign God helps us to make sense of and cope with the coronavirus outbreak.
